Day trip to Ayattuya
What's a reasonable price (per person) for a day trip to
Ayattuya? Can anyone recommend tour guide or good day trip organizers. Thanks

1. Re: Day trip to Ayattuya
The day trip to Ayuthaya (Ayudhaya) is 1500 B per person. You travel there by bus and return is via boat on the Chaopraya River with set menu buffet lunch. The boat trip is about three to four hours.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and tour is well worth the money.
The company we went with was Siam Express and we had booked
it through our transfer agent:
Thai Leisure Co
18 Soi 4 Sukhumvit Road (South Nana), Bangkok 10110
Tel. (662) 254 4103-5, 0r 255-0040-83.
Fax (662) 253-5584
We also took several tours for Bangkok with this operator.
The Bangkok guide we were provided was very good and spoke very good English.
Highly recommended. This guide's name is "Annie".

2. Re: Day trip to Ayattuya
I can recommend the trip run daily by the Oriental Hotel,
if you don't mind paying Bht1900. One way by coach the other on the boat, the
Oriental Queen, with lunch catered by the Hotel, departing from and returning
to the Oriental.

Most tour companies in BKK run regular day trips to Ayyuthya. Private coach, hotel pickup, about 8:30 am - 5:00 p.m., lunch included. Expect to pay around 800 Baht.

Highly recommendable: Travel Agent in Bangkok
After battling with Chawla Travel, I contacted (after being
tipped off on this post) Olavi Travel. Not only are the prices better than Chawla,
but the service is too.
I recommend them freely. Visit their site at : www.olavi.com

1. Re: Highly recommendable: Travel Agent in Bangkok
I like Chaiwat tours. Never had problems with them.

2. Re: Highly recommendable: Travel Agent in Bangkok
Me too I had problems with Chawla before, they quote price
on Internet, then when you confirm they ignore, it was a R. Chawla, maybe because
they lie about the price first.

Massage
I will shortly be in Thailand and would like to find a god place in Bangkok to get a traditional massage (read :not a sex massage but a traditional non-sexual good massage).
With all the sex massages is it still possible to get a good traditional Thai massage taht wouldnt cost too much ? could someone recommend a good and cheap place for traditional massages in Bangkok ?
[Wed 7 Mar, 07:17]
1. Re: Massage
wat pho of course. you will know as soon as you enter any
estab. if they are sex oriented or not.

2. Re: Massage in BKK
Unless there is a different section of Wat Po from the one
I have seen, massage there means a quick standup shoulder massage that lasts
until the next group of tourists comes through.
Establishments that offer "traditional" massage mean just that. You
change into a pair of traditional pyjamas that the establishment supplies, and
a group of friends can all have a massage in a large room together. Two hours
is worth your while- and a tip for the masseuse is a nice idea. Don't go to
any massage place with a guide or taxi driver, as the price will be jacked up
to pay them a commission.
Establishments that offer naughty massage have a large glass window behind which
the staff sit. After the customer has selected one- or two- there are no pyjamas
involved at all :-)

3. Re: Massage
I just returned from good ole Bangkok and would definately recommend Wat Pho for the cheapest and most authentic around, plus you can check out the reclining buddha.
[Wed 7 Mar, 09:06]
4. Re: Massage
ask a taxidriver to take you to Baan Thara,( this is not
in the center of Bangkok) some 100 metres from the entrance of Baan Thara a
clean beauty est. is situated, VERY good (4-hands)massage,traditional or swedish
whatever you like. NO SEX, very cheap.
[Wed 7 Mar, 09:38]
5. Re: Massage
Like several of the posters above I would recommend Wat
Po. They will give you clothes to change into and work you over for a good 30
- 45 minutes, depending on your tolerance and how much you pay.

6. Re: Massage
A friend and I stumbled into a little massage shop just
off Sukhumvit near Soi 6. I can't remember the name, but they gave an incredible
2 hour massage for around US $5. They made us get into these "pajamas"
and they went from head to toe. As noted above, you'll definitely know if the
place is a sex massgae joint as soon as you walk in.

7. Re: Massage
i really cant recommend wat pho...yeah if youve never had a massage before its great but after being here for a couple of years and enjoying really hard massages from old thai men with fingers like wood, i went to wat pho with a friend who was here for a couple of weeks and the massage felt crap no pain at all......then again i suppose u could just tell them to do it a little harder

8. Re: Massage
At Wat Pho, the national message school gives hour long massages for 250 baht. Its around the side of the Wat in 2 open air buildings.
Also, most mid priced shopping malls, MBK in siam square
etc, will have a number of legit massage places.

9. Re: Massage
There's one in the city centre of Bangkok, called something
like "Radjama Spa", which is located in a small street, opposite to
the World Trade Centre. You'll see signs around the Big C Supermarket. It's cheap,
clean and with excellent service. 400Baht for two whole hours. But be careful,
there's a naughty one next to it, don't mix them up!
[Wed 7 Mar, 14:46]
10. Re: Massage
RE #6 - The place is on Sukhumvit Soi 8 - name is Foot Joy. A 2HR Thai massage is 300b.

Need a break really badly - Koh Samui beach
Thanks for the replies on my earlier post. 35 year old female who needs a break very very badly , to get away from it all and have peace and quiet. I've decided on Koh Samui. Someone said there were still some quiet spots there. Anyone know about them? Please let me know, I'll post my e-mail address, to keep them quiet obviously. What I want is a decent clean place, good food, lots of seafood, beach, some visiting and perhaps some sailing. And no one who wants to know where I come from or where I am going. I could manage a budget of $ 30 to 50 a day all inclusive, but must be worth it! Going for one week, really need two months but can't due to circumstances. Thanks for any advice.

1. Re: Need a break really badly - Koh Samui beach
With a budget that big you will have a great time. Quite places its not that commercialised - Try the north - but Chaweng Beach is still the best, and you will want to got out for a good drink surely.

3. Re: Need a break really badly - Koh Samui beach
You might want to try Ko Tao, its way quieter.
Wish I was going, a couple of my friends were there recently. By the way you won't need $30 a day.

I was there 2 weeks ago and stayed at the Smui Orchid Resort. It is really quiet and the beach is beautiful and clean.Located at Ban Harn Beach just 10 min drive south of Lamai. Air con rooms, fridge and hot water, 2 huge pools and massage gazebo on the beach. 1100Baht including breakfast, free shuttle to Lamai town. I rented a scooter to get around 150 baht a day for a brand new one. Have fun...

N 5 , the last thing I need is rowdy parties. My mind needs a rest. Peace and quiet only.
N 6 , sounds great , but I was thinking of a lower budget for the room, 500 Baht maximum. If I really think it is not good enough, I'll go look for something better. But my life of luxury is over, so I better get used to it!

9. Re: Need a break really badly - Koh Samui beach
Try www.sawadee.com and click on samui and accomodation. A lot of hotels and bungalow resorts. A lot of quiet places on the south and west side. Also north: bangpo, meanam, bophut, big buddha, is ok. Chaweng is hell on earth.

10. Re: Need a break really badly - Koh Samui beach
Ko Samui is large and noisy and over exploited. An hour away is Ko Pha Ngam. Haat Salat Beach is very quiet and lacks the density of other places.
