Little
statue called jizo, which represent the souls of children who were stillborn,
miscarried, or killed by abortion. I photographed these particular ones
before (see May
28, 2002). I'm not sure what significance the pinwheels (called kazaguruma
in Japanese) have, but they create a wonderful sense of playfulness, and
on a breezy day, a lovely interplay of movement with the stillness of
the statues.
