The case of the missing content

hmmn_missing.gif

M-san of Nippon Daze and Hajimemashou was kind enough to send me the above visual proof of something that Nils of alive in kyoto commented on a couple of days ago: that in Apple’s new web browser Safari, the main content on the first page of this blog is missing! In other words, if you’re using Safari right now, then you are not actually reading this entry but rather staring at some lonely looking white space. Now, as any regular readers of this blog will know, I am quite capable of making my own content go MIA for weeks if not months at a time, so I really don’t need Apple’s aid in this regard.

I’ve checked Movable Type’s Support Forum, as well as Mark Pilgrim’s Safari information for web designers but so far nothing obvious has reared its head. And not having a Mac myself, tweaking and testing my CSS is not really that feasible. Considering that this is still a beta release of Safari that we’re talking about, I’m inclined to wait till a solution finds me rather than the other way around, though if anyone has any good ideas I’m all ears.

I suppose this is what I deserve for never having felt the desire to jump on the Apple bandwagon all these years (:

Japan-based blogs, in Japanese

I’ve been feeling a little guilty that my Other Personal Views of Japan blogroll to the right is so English-centric, which, with some notable exceptions (namely Kiyo, Eri, Joi Ito) means that it’s pretty much a foreigner-centric list as well.

But obviously there are Japanese blogs out there, in Japanese, by Japanese. And since November of last year, when a Japanese language pack was created for Movable Type, things have really started to pick up. I figure when I get to the point that I can read them, I’ll link to them in the blogroll (we’ll see which comes first, the death of this blog or my reading Japanese!). In the meantime, pop-space (itself a Japanese blog) has put together a slideshow of 86 different Japanese blogs for your amusement and/or edification.

You might also want to take a look at Hatena::Antenna’s continually updated list of registered Japanese blogs, as well as the JBA – Japan Blogging Association site.

Kanazawa images — signage

I haven’t felt like writing about my recent trip to Kanazawa and Matsumoto, mainly because I’ve been sick and feeling blah about things in general. I don’t feel capable of offering up any commentary that’s beyond the “it was nice” variety. So here are some photos instead. I thought I would group them loosely, so will start off with some signage that appealed to me from Kanazawa*.

* The second photo is actually from Wajima, a coastal town about 2 hours north of Kanazawa on the Noto Peninsula.
