Now somewhere near Biwa lake, headed towards Kyoto. Lots of snow on the ground here, making for a very picturesque view as we whiz by (not depicted very well above). Didn’t sleep a wink on the overnight train so I’m really going to crash when(ever!) I get to Hiroshima.

Headed west…

The “Moonlight Nagara” from Shinagawa (Tokyo) to Ogaki (prefecture), which will take me about halfway to Hiroshima, my final destination. We’ll leave at 11:55 p.m. and will get to Ogaki at 6:01 a.m. tomorrow. I doing one of those “Seishun 18” tickets JR offers, 5 days of travel for 11500 yen (regular trains only), which means my trip to Hiroshima is costing me about 2800 yen, or about 10 times cheaper than the shinkansen. (Let’s not worry for now that it’s 5 times slower!)
