Such is the reality of Kaika in his first month of life that we won’t be doing any hanami (cherry blossom viewing) parties this Spring, or even going to the park to see them. Ironic considering Kaika was named partly for “kaika,” meaning blossom, and a word heard a lot on the weather and “sakura-watch” news reports these days. So I’ll take any view of cherry blossoms I can get, including the above view I snapped on the way home from a trip to the drugstore to buy Kaika more powdered milk formula.
The image below is completely kankeinai (unrelated), snapped this one about a half an hour ago while walking the dog. Hanging futons are a common site in Japan (and a commonly ugly site if you ask me), but you don’t often see them hanging this close to the ground, in these parts anyway.

The clamps holding the futons on the line are something I haven’t seen in the US.
Kurt,
Been away a while – what with the sale of the computer, and the move, and my packing for Japan – I’ll be there by the end of April!
Well, today I finally got a computer to play with (for a while) and so I popped in and guess what…?! A very belated but heart felt congrats on the birth of Kaika from both Shiori and myself.
I look forward to a return to blogging soon – this time from Japan, and a return to being a regular reader of hmmn 🙂
Regards
Peter
(formally of SYDNEY NOTES)
P.S. Can never have too many pics of cherry blossoms!
Anita-
you’re right, I never saw those things in the states either, but everyone has them here. actually, I’m constantly admonishing my family to buy new ones, the ones we have are grodie to the max, seems to defeat the purpose, air these futons out but fasten them with soot-covered clamps.
peter-
thanks for the congrats, and glad to know you’ll be blogging again one of these days. popped on over to sydney notes the other day and was worried something bad happened, like your blog had attracted a stalker or something. glad to see your absence is due rather to a less dramatic reason.
