A few images from a local Warabi festival celebrating the history of the Nakasendo Highway which passes through here. We got there too late and so I didn’t get any photos of the folks dressed up in Edo-era costumes. I did get samba dancers, an okonomiyaki vendor, and a politician. Guess which of the three wasn’t around in the Edo era?
Autumn in Japan
Some images from today’s family outing to Chichibu, in the far western part of our prefecture (Saitama). It was about a 3-hour drive. Japanese take the changing of autumn leaves (called kouyou) very seriously. Today helped me understand why. Chichibu itself was a wonder to behold, hard to believe such beauty is so close at hand. Naoko’s family took many trips there during her childhood. I think this is something Naoko and I will continue, with our family.
Updated the photo diary, finally
Busy with other things, I haven’t had time to update my Japan photo diary recently. But today I found the time to get through the backlog of photos and I uploaded three days’ worth to the site. The above image is from last Saturday’s visit to Hiroo that I wrote about earlier. These lanterns were on the side of a truck that was being prepared along with mikoshi (sacred palanquin) and vendor stalls and what not for an Autumn Festival that was to occur the following day. (See the September 14th link at the diary for more images from this day).
Also added were the photos I took on my neighborhood walk on September 11th, some of which I’ve already presented here with commentary.
