Did he have to sign for it? When we filled out the application form for a British passport for our daughter, who was four weeks old at the time, we had a bit of dilemma about what to do with the "Holder's signature section".

neither on the application, nor on the actual passport, did Kaika have to sign anything. He did have to pose with his eyes open for the photo I took, but that wasn't a problem for him :) when I picked up the passport yesterday, they told me to just print his name, write "by father", and then sign my name on the space provided in the passport.
that's the cutest looking US passport i've seen ever.
Posted by: catsudon at November 27, 2003 12:55 AMHow long is it valid? He's going to feel a bit silly with that photo when he's 12!

it's only valid for 5 years. nevertheless, he'll probably still feel silly if he's 5 and has to show it at the airport. but he'll have company, as my current passport photo looks nothing like me now.
Why did you make him an American citizen??

We didn't "make" him a U.S. citizen; he's one by default. He's also a Japanese citizen, and will soon have a Japanese passport. He will have dual citizenship until he's 22, at which time he'll have to choose (stupid Japanese law; America is quite fine with citizens holding dual citizenship, but Japan is not).
I thought it was 18 years old. But I guess not. Anyways, he looks reeeallly adorable in the photo :)
